Before you get excited, this is not breaking news about Jason Kenney.
Sorry to disappoint.
This is just a short note to let you know that I’m taking a few days off for vacation and will be back at my newsletter on July 18.
I was going to write something today, what with all the incredibly stupid things that went down this week - Covid Loves Stampede as it kicked off with thousands crammed together at Nashville North, nurses hit back on plans to roll back their wages and Kenney backtracked completely on his promise not to damage public healthcare.
But then I remembered there’ll always be more irrational decisions to write about next week. There always is with this government.
And honestly, I’m packing for a short trip and already have one foot pretty much out the door.
So, I’m going to leave you with this image of people floating down the Elbow River near the Stampede grounds this past Saturday. People have been floating down this river in various types of boats for thousands of years.
This location is on traditional Blackfoot territory, in the neighbourhood we now call Mission, an early settlement location for French Europeans.
The river and the trees are still here and the structures of downtown seem fleeting and hazy by comparison. It reminds me of what is most important in life.
